United Way of Franklin County joined forces with Jersey Mike’s Subs of Chambersburg for “Day of Giving” on Wednesday, March 27 to make an impact on the community. Hundreds of people came out for Day of Giving to buy a sub and contribute to United Way, from regular customers to community-minded citizens to partner agencies. All $6,699.59 in sales from the day will be donated to United Way of Franklin County.

"We are blown away by the outpouring of support from our community...Every person counts and every dollar counts to make our community stronger and improve quality of lives in Franklin County.”

“We are blown away by the outpouring of support from our community and those who showed up to eat a sub for a local charity,” exclaimed Amy Hicks, executive director of United Way of Franklin County. “It truly shows the power of community and the difference we can make together.”

The restaurant also collected donations throughout the month of March, giving customers the option to donate $1, $3 or $5 to United Way.

“We chose to partner with our local United Way for Day of Giving because we wanted our donation to reach as far into the community as possible, and United Way reaches multiple organizations and touches many lives,” explained Erin Cohan, general manager of the Jersey Mike’s franchise in Chambersburg. “We were thrilled to serve so many customers all day and bring people together for a great cause.”

United Way of Franklin County is committed to its vision of building a community where all families achieve their potential through early learning, healthy living, and financial stability. All of the funds raised through Jersey Mike’s will be invested to serve United Way’s 28 local program partners.

“We’re able to create positive change in Franklin County because of our donors and businesses like Jersey Mike’s. It is because of support from our community that we can provide scholarships for quality pre-K education. We can help families find shelter when circumstances have left them homeless. We can aid in linking families to counseling so their child can readjust after an adverse event. We can help connect individuals to basic literacy and workforce training so they can find more reliable jobs. It is the power of community and events like Day of Giving that make an impact on quality of lives through these kinds of programs,” said Hicks.

Recognizing the generosity and hard work of Jersey Mike’s staff, United Way staff came to welcome guests during the busy lunch crowds. “We are extremely grateful to the Jersey Mike’s staff and everyone who came to enjoy a sub and support our community on Day of Giving. Every person counts and every dollar counts to make our community stronger and improve quality of lives in Franklin County,” said Hicks.
