Stepping Forward Works connects the unemployed and under-employed to high priority occupations through industry certified training, essential skills development, and job search assistance.

Stepping Forward Works serves individuals facing barriers to employment. We help prepare clients to start a new career and move toward self-sufficiency. The program supports local employers by providing qualified, skilled workers that have been vetted through our program (including drug tested). Franklin County businesses who hire our graduates benefit from productive employees equipped with the necessary hard and soft skills to do an excellent job. through Stepping Forward Works

Stepping Forward Works is a free career pathway program for those looking to land a good job. The program includes:

  • Industry training leading to certification

  • Skills courses covering communication, budgeting and more

  • Resume and interview prep

  • Connections to local employers

  • Individualized goal planning

  • A support system lasting beyond the training

United Way is currently seeking individuals interested in the following trainings*:

  • CNC Machining

  • HVAC (Refrigeration Basics)

  • Logistics/Forklift

  • Welding

  • Pharmacy Technician

  • Office Administration

  • CNA (Nurse Aide)

Stepping Forward Works is driven by workforce development needs identified by industries in Franklin County. We have recently expanded our training offerings to clients to meet the industry needs. Current trainings include:

How can you become a Corporate Partner?

  • Participate as an Employer: As an employer, you have the opportunity to: 1) Present to program clients about your employment needs and job expectations for the industry, 2) Host clients for a site tour to provide in-person experience of the job environment, and 3) Interview (and hopefully hire!) qualified job candidates who successfully completed the program.

  • Send Your Employees: Do you have promising employees who just need some skill-building? Offer them training and essential skills development through Stepping Forward Works. They'll return to you with heightened work ethic and the skills needed to succeed.

  • Sponsor the Program: Because the program is offered free of charge to all participants, we rely on support from businesses to keep Stepping Forward Works running. Your investment is vital to building a reliable, skilled local workforce.​
